Don't bring a knife to a gun fight

Due to the shooting in Colorado, once again our country is torn on how to feel about the 2nd amendment. Will making gun laws stricter really cut down on violence?
Well here are a few stats...you can decide.
  1. In 2010 California had 1,257 gun murders which equalled 69% of ALL gun murders for the entire country. A pretty interesting fact considering they have some of the strictest laws on owning a firearm in the country.  (Source)
  2. The District of Columbia is #1 with 16 firearms murders per 100,000 people and they topped the list of firearm robberies per 100,000 people with 255.98, Yet D.C. arguably has the tightest gun laws in the country. (Source)
  3. In 2011 the FBI released documents supporting that gun murders have steadily decreased every year since 2006 dropping over 14%, while at the same time firearms sales surged over 30%.
  4. In the year 2011, 12,481 stolen guns were traced back to the state of California out of 17,285 traceable guns. (Source: ATF) Who do think is buying all of these stolen guns? Law abiding citizens....nope.

Would you send your child to school knowing he is going to be bullied and not teach him how to protect himself against a bully? Of course not. There will always be bullies in elementary school and there will always be insane people who can get guns illegally, we can't change that...BUT just like with those elementary bullies, I learned swinging back always stopped them in their tracks. I know here in good ole' Bama we make sure to be able to swing back and make it a fair fight!  -Ash-

Here's another good article for you. It's a few years old, but still shows that tight gun laws do NOT stop crime.
